"Is the Roman Catholic doctrine of the Virgin Mary Biblical or not?" The Debaters: James White, Th.D., is director of ministries for Alpha & Omega Ministries, a Christian apologetics organization based in Phoenix, Arizona, & an adjunct professor with Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary's Arizona campus. He is also professor of apologetics with Columbia Evangelical Seminary, and a critical consultant for the Lockman Foundation on the New American Standard Bible update. James is a published author of many books including "Mary - Another Redeemer?" published by Bethany House Publishers. Robert Fastiggi, Ph.D. is professor of religious studies at Saint Edward's University in Austin, Texas. He is a published author & a Roman Catholic apologist. Mark Gunning is the moderator.
In his celebration of the Marian Year in Rome in 1950, Pope Pius XII accurately reflected the Roman Catholic Church's view of the Virgin Mary in his pontifical prayer: "Enraptured by the splendor of your heavenly beauty and impelled by the anxieties of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms, Oh Immaculate Mother of Jesus and our Mother. Mary ... we adore and praise the peerless richness of the sublime gifts with which God has lifted you above every other mere creature, from the moment of your conception until the day on which after your assumption into heaven, He crowned you Queen of the Universe. Oh crystal fountain of faith, bathe our minds with the eternal truths. Oh fragrant lily of all holiness, captivate our hearts with your heavenly perfume. Oh Conqueress of evil and death ... Receive, Oh sweet Mother, our humble supplications and above all, obtain for us that on that day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which is sung today around your altars. You are all beautiful Oh Mary. You are Glory, you are the Joy, you are the Honor of our people."
The Roman Church has elevated the Virgin Mary according to the following declarations:
1. Mary is the "Mother of God"
2. Mary had an "Immaculate Conception"
3. Mary has "Perpetual Virginity"
4. Mary is the "Co-Redemptrix & Mediatrix of All Graces"
5. Mary experienced "Assumption into Heaven"
6. Mary is the "Queen of Heaven"
Deuteronomy 5:7-9 states, "Thou shalt have none other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the Lord am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me."

I've watched the whole thing.
It was James White that quoted scripture.
It was James White that was quoted the catholic fathers.
It was the catholic who couldn't find verses in the bible, I hope it was nervousness and not lack of reading the bible.

@5355vbxjbj76rvn 1. Protestants don't worship, bow down to or kiss the feet of the statues you refer to, so your point is really not a point at all. Completely different to make a statue to honor someone v. making a statue to worship.
2. The words of Christ are the very Word of God, unless you don't recognize Christ as God incarnate.
3. Peter had a vision in Acts 10 that dealt with dietary laws. Revelation 1 quotes Exodus and says all believer are a "kingdom of priests". Circumcision of heart.

Jesus was a religious dissident, humanly speaking - the words of Jesus were of no Biblical authority when He said them, because they were His words & were not in the Bible. Many people treat the words of Jesus as though they had always been Holy Scripture - which is absurd. To accept His authority, was to go outside, & vbeyond, & against the Bible as it was during His earthly life. The NT writings ignore circumcision, the Levitical priesthood, the dietary laws, and much else.

1. Mary is not a god - let alone an "other god". There is only one.
2. Protestants don't take their use of Deut. 5 seriously, as they seem to have no problems with statues of public characters (who could be damned for all they know - why honour someone who may be hateful to God ?
And if Protestants are not bound by that passage - why do they bind Catholics by it ?
3. The Law is dead, fulfilled in Christ. Gentiles, esp. Christians, are not under it.

ALL Christians are "intercessors" for one another. Mary is no different in her intercessory power than any other True Christian.

John 20:23 Jesus gives power to forgive sins or retain sins upon all whom Jesus is sending, which is after Jesus rose from the dead. " Again Jesus said, "Peace be upon you ! As The Father sent me, I am sending you " And with that he Breathed on them and said , " Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven : If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven" Jesus gave all His Power of the Holy Spirit to the Church, as Intercessors to forgive sins.

@melegritof it that is the case there is not freedom of conscience, What is the point of even thinking, just accept what the catholic church says, Galileo said the earth moves but he had to recaunt because he was scared. When I was only 14 I said to the priest. "Why did you tell me to say 4 hail Marys last sundays and 5 this sunday, how can it make it a difference? How can I buy maself forgiveness? but I guess if the catholic church is right regardless of the bible we cannot use our mind

Moses mediation was strictly on earth not between heaven and earth's people.Mary's womb was an enclave nothing of her egg made Jesus Christ if that were the case she passed death from sin upon Christ and the law of sin and death would apply to Him, impossible. She intercedes in describing the need not the miracle.True intercession attributed to Mary if your an honest speaking as a former Catholic, Catholics believe she helps in the miracles by compassion and virtue etc. not true

Every prophet was a mediator to tell us something coming from God. Moses in particular. But Moses or any other man does not mediate to the point that he MUST COME BETWEEN ME AND GOD AS AN AID FOR MY INSUFFICIENCY. Jesus only covered those inefficiencies.
