This video was created by Richard Seltzer and Berthold Langer in February 1994, when they worked at DEC, half a year before formation of DEC's Internet Business Group. NCSA (creators of Mosaic, the first Web browsers) and dozens of other organizations, including Digital's competitors. distributed thousands of copies of this video, using it to help spread the word about the business potential of the Web, which, at that time, many business people found difficult to imagine. Thanks to David Wecker and Gene Kusekoski for converting this video to a variety of formats.

  • did i just read "fetish"

  • @MonkeyCMonkeyDo77 Sorry. I don't understand your question. Where do you think you saw the word "fetish"? And why would you care?

    Richard

  • Interesting. I don't know why that came from or why.

  • What's with the @ symbol represented by (a)? Keyboards had the @ symbol before the Internet.

  • @cozmorio -- Please explain. Where do you see (a)? If I know the context, maybe I'll remember the reason. Thanks. Richard

  • amazing that 1994 was almost 20 years ago now

  • @richardseltzer Text at the end, around 2:53 in the email address

  • A few decades from now we'll have holographic capability added to the system, being born in 1995 I cannot say I lived life before the boom, but when Im fifty I can say something.

  • Those were the days. There is something nice about a classic html page, with the fonts and tables, and little dancing graphics. Nowadays its nothing but web 2.0 cookie cutter blogs. Very little actual web design.

  • Best line: 2:20 "And with our electronic store we are beginning to sell over the internet as well".

Novel concept, selling tools to access the internet.. over the internet! Great vid.

    Very inspiring.

  • that was so interesting. I remember in 94 when I first got online. Dial up of course, and I used a program called "Imagination nation.... 2 years later, I was already learning HTML.... Been a geek ever since, lol!

  • We tend to forget how a wonderful tool is the internet.I We are so greedy, once we get a toy we forget about it and want to get the next one

  • The music is kinda catchy.
