Tariq Ali on "The Duel: Pakistan on the Flight Path of American Power"

Pakistani border troops allegedly foiled a US raid on Pakistani territory Monday. Details of the incident remain unclear, but according to an anonymous Pakistani intelligence official, the troops fired warning shots at American helicopters near the border after US soldiers got out of them and tried to cross into Pakistan. The US military has denied the operation. This follows weeks of strikes by American Predator drone aircrafts and prompted an outcry inside Pakistan. We speak with Tariq Ali, whose new book, The Duel: Pakistan on the Flight Path of American Power, takes a new a look at Pakistan and its fraught relationship with the United States. • when different people, groups, political parties, army and the intelligence agencies have their own hidden agendas, this is what happens. Chaos, confusion, desperation and and ultimate break up of the whole country into 5 different countries

  • Pakistan is a very complex country, more complex than india. Pakistani elite wants to have democracy !! Fundamentalists who are members of pakistani parliment have their own agenda.Pakistani army have a different agenda, and its always paranoid about India. On top of all this, pakistani inter service intelligence have their own agenda called as Islamisation of whole world. They carried out attacks not only in india, but also in china.

  • your name suits you

  • he didntr say modernise he said wining the war..lol u ass

  • This 'War on Terror' is now just an excuse for the US, and its, few, allies, unfortunately including us here in the UK, to go where it wants and to bomb who it wants in the name of "justice", amusingly.

Just because you don't like how a country is run, or even its human rights doesn't give any country the right to attack it.

Ironically, in a way similar to Macarthyism in the 1950's, nobody has stopped to think about the US being the terrorist, or in the case of the former, a communist.

  • tariq ali is great

  • You are mistaken my friend. The pakistani elite wants power. The Pakistani intellectuals want democracy, along with 95% of ordinacy Pakistanis. I don't think the ISI have one agenda, there are radical factions within the ISI but its an agency which is notoriously difficult to control.

  • Ohhhh really?? Is that what you meant? Oh my GOD how could I miss that.. The only person commenting here finally has someone to talk to.. aww so cute.. Get some hobby .. me out of here and onto some meaningful discussions :) cya kid

  • I don't see any horse here, well there you go. Maybe if you get off your couch and look around the world you will see that 99.9% people in Pakistan don't have horses they have cars.. you know the things with four wheels.. .. now back to some other story am done here. You carry on with your totally unrelated commenting..
