The centerpiece of this exhibit is the alledged assassination weapon, the pistol belonging to Dr. Weiss.
Three exhibit panels address the themes of the "official" version, that Dr. Weiss shot Long.... The "Continuing Controversy" version.... that Long was accidentally shot by his bodyguards as they fired 61 rounds in a narrow marble hallway, killing Dr. Weiss and wounding Long... and the third panel follows the gun from its purchase through it's disappearance and final discovery in a safe deposit box owned by the head of the Louisiana State Police.
In order to create a somber atmosphere in the exhibit, a video projector throws a "ghostly" translucent image onto a scrim hung over the gun case while an eerie, dissonant soundtrack loops with the video....
I designed the exhibit and produced it within an 8 week timeframe.... (totally exhausting), but we made the deadline set by the Secretary of State to coincide with the anniversary of Huey Long's death.... overall a fascinating project.
