WARNING: You will probably want to turn down your speakers for most of this episode. Trust me.

In this special bonus episode, I demonstrate how battling at the Colosseum works and what items I feel like getting now. There's other things (like the Genji Armor) that I could get now, but either require too much luck or is more easily won later. Here's my list for now:

Bet Regal Crown to win Genji Helm from Opinicus (Sabin)
Bet Soul Sabre to win Falchion from Opinicus (Sabin)
Bet Falchion to win Flame Shield from Outsider (Setzer)
Bet Charm Bangle to win Dragon Horn from Retainer (Sabin)
Bet Murasame to win Aura from Borras* (Sabin)
*Use Sniper Sight in GBA version
Bet Aura to win Strato from Rhyos (Edgar)
Bet Strato to win Pearl Lance from Aquila (Celes)
Bet Genji Gloves to win Thunder Shield from Hemophyte (Edgar)
Bet Thunder Shield to win Genji Shield from Outsider (Setzer)
Bet Elixir to win Rename Card from Cactrot (Setzer)
Bet Rename Card to win Marvel Shoes from Doom Dragon (Edgar)

I forgot to mention that initial statuses don't carry into the Colosseum battles, unless it's generated by equipment. Also, fighting battles here requires a bit of patience. I didn't show most of my unlucky failures, so it's not as easy as it looks.

If you are watching this immediately after uploading, it takes YouTube a little while to finish processing the video for high quality.

Thanks for watching!

  • When you Win in the colosseum, do you lose the item you bet and retain the item won? Because every time i win I seen to have an item missing <.<. Any ideas?

  • Yes. The item you bet is your entry fee and cannot be recovered.

  • Does meeting monsters here add that formation to the Veldt?

Nice, Dragon Horn + Spear is akin to Genji Glove + Masamune or other high combo weapon in FFXII.

How is Genji Shield more useful than the Gloves in this game, one that I thought offense outweighed defense?

Doom Dragon is vulnerable to Poison damage? You would think Doom = Death = immune to poison.

Debilitator reminds me of an animation from CT somehow.

  • No, the Coliseum doesn't add the encounter to the Veldt.

Usually, I would agree with you about the Genji Gloves, but this is FF6. The majority of characters can deal maximum damage from the back row without the Fight command.

  • Is there anywhere I can buy/get a Sniper Scope in the Advance version? I tried Sniper Eyes, but I got Typoned.

  • You can buy it back at Tzen.

  • Ugh, that Retainer is a bastard, because if you do it at this point in the game, it's all about luck. You either have to block Tradeoff when he does (and I don't know if you can block the deathblow version; I know you can block the one he uses IN battle), or have him die from poison. It took me about 3 hours to get the Dragon Horn, and that was with running an emulator at 5X speed and with save states!

But that's what RPGs are all about, grinding for hours for useful equipment!

  • that was an EPIC win by Edgar there!

  • My favorite personal failure was when Edgar used the debilitator and made Doom Dragon weak to Holy. Edgar jumped and cast Holy and did 12000 damage to the dragon. Then it used Fallen One and killed me when Edgar's ATB Bar filled up.

  • 10:17 GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • YES! YES! I just killed the retainer after he cast condemned on me and I killed him right when the timer hit 0 and I won the battle!

  • Hey HC, I'm playing the psx version but I having trouble getting the dragon horn. Retainer doesn't die from poison. Do you think they fixed that on this version? Do all the tactics you use at the Colosseum wok in the psx version.

  • Can you get more then 1 rename card?

  • Damn you're good at this. nice!

  • GOOOOOOAAALLLLL

  • It's a bit harder to get that Masamune in the Advance version, though, because that monster has wicked high evade so I needed the Sniper Eye. After a few failed attempts, I decided TWO can play at this evade game, and in lieu of the Genji Glove, I gave him some Beads and a Green Beret. Sabin's attacks did less damage, but he hardly took any hits.

Actually, I used that same strategy of raising my evade to get the Dragon Horn, too. So, if you're playing the Advance version, consider that.
