@TurdLeaver it all depends on what you want to catch. down in florida ive had alot of luck with shrimp(catching mainly, whiting, croaker, bonet sharks and pompano). but for beginner surf fishing i would say go to your local bait store and get between 20-25 lb test line then get a couple of bottom rigs and some weights depending on how round the surf is. as far as casting goes theres no limit to how far you have to throw your line out, it all depends on where the fish are. DO YOUR RESERCH!

I'm new to surf fishing and I got a 9 foot rod. I have been told to use live minnows and finger mullet that I catch with my cast net. I don't know how far to cast it on my beach. I go into my waist and cast it about 50 feet but I've only got a nibble. Could someone give me some advice, I live in South Florida by the way. I would love a message back please.

@PierRat98 Put the hook right thru the flea. I like to start at the bottom where there is a cavity that seems to have nothing except the carapace on the other side. I use that spot because I believe the flea will live longer by not puncturing it's internals. Wiggle the hook after it punctures the carapace so that the barb when it goes thru doesn't split the carapace.
