The structure of league as a sport invites massive hits with the shoulder because the ball carrier is running into fresh air ie he can run as fast as possible without worrying about the next stage of the tackle ie getting in a position to release the ball as in union..It's not as though league players are tougher than union but the sport encourages speed and verocity of contact

I find it so funny when people are use to watching union...watch league...and cringe at the hits....or think it should be illegal...truth is League is a gladiator sport...there are so many big hits whether its shoulder charges or normal big hits...because the game promotes this...therefore making it a the fastest, toughest most skillful game on earth
