The main evening bulliten as aired on HSV 7 Melbourne in March of 2002.

This bulliten was the first to be broadcast from the Docklands studio... and they went 'back to the future'; reintroducing the already tried and failed 'news sport and weather before the first ad break idea'. The bosses at HSV7 went for style over substance - the result was a ratings headache... much of what you see in the clip was changed within 6 months.

The presenters:
Peter Mitchell (News), Jim Wilson (Sport) and weather with David Brown. The days top story's include those dramatic 911 clips and a drug bust at the West Coast Eagles (gee, what else :P)

Clip also features promo's for Today Tonight with then presenter Naomi Robson AND the 2002 style Ident - with the Melbourne presenters inserted.

  • i just noticed somethin, in 2002 the whole of the Seven network had the Seven ribbon logo ( the red and orange with a shadow) and changed it in mid 2003 to an all red seven ( in sydney anyway) did melb use the new all red logo in 02 coz its behind that cown reading the news on the cylinder post

  • Short answer: No.

And so you know: The network used the plain red logo on letterheads ect since 2000 - it introduced it NETWORK wide as it's on-air logo in 2003.

  • ouch. this set lasted until around september 2002, after that nothing was changed until 2004 and then in 2005 a BRAND NEW SET was implemented. this just shows how bad seven were in this particular period of time.

  • Hang on - this set lasted until 2004; when they just made alterations to it (eg: the blue perspex); before completely ceasing use in and around September 2004. They did remove all the Seven News Melbourne sinage however with six months of having introduced it.

  • This was the perfect set at the time. I still can't believe that within 6-12 months, Seven dumped the set for the infamous "blue cardboard" backdrop.

  • No no - they didnt ditch the SET in that time period- the blue cardboard was introduced in 2004 - good two years later.

  • One of the clues in regards to the traitor (aka The Mole) is seen as the first person who takes off his or her blindfold.

  • this is the very same night The Weakest Link Mole special aired.

  • then they got rid of the blue cardboard half way trhough 2004 and started to show the newsroom again with a renovation of the set.

  • Aren't they still using the same studio now!

  • even though i'm fron sydney i remembered the blue set was used for the 4:30 news (when it was produced in melbourne) so HSV-7 didn't completely abandon it....

  • Nobody bothered to re-render the graphics for widescreen it seems :p
