The melody is from Bellini's Norma.

Best etude melody I've heard.
-
Another of my favorite works by Chopin

Pollini's smart and talented enough to know when a piece deserves a break from rigidity in order to milk all the emotion and feeling from it. And *wow* has he ever done that here. Perfect.

@newFranzFerencLiszt i love it too!!

@BarNuun Thank you very much. I'm happy to be here.
-
who can find the rythmical fault in this etude , there is a little one...
not corresponding to the text. strange as pollini seems perfect in respecting the text otherwise.

@Z01011001 I can't believe it is Pollini on any of the etudes I have heard him play so far. Pollini, usually a stickler for tempo and an avid musical purist in my opinion, shows a depth of emotion in these etudes I have hardly heard surpassed. Just Wonderful!

That's a lot of rubato and tempo change between sections. I can't believe this is Pollini who plays rather in strict tempo for the other etudes.

sounds allot like the early scriabin (he was inspired ofcourse)
my favorite Chopin Etude
