Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world. In North America, most converts to Islam are women, many of whom are drawn to the religion through their experiences of social injustice and political involvement.

Ironically many mosques force women to pray behind barriers away from the men, and some mosques do not even permit women to enter the building. When it comes to user-friendliness for women, Canadian mosques run the entire gamut.

In Me and the Mosque, journalist and filmmaker Zarqa Nawaz visits mosques throughout Canada and talks to scholars, colleagues, friends and neighbours about equal access for women. Discussions about the historical role of women in the Islamic faith, the current state of mosques in Canada and personal stories of anger, fear, acceptance and defiance punctuate the film. And Nawaz herself speaks of the spiritual longing that comes from belonging to an institution that doesn't want you.

With original animation, archival footage and deeply personal interviews, Me and the Mosque is a smart, self-aware and whimsical story that documents the debates and presents the personalities on all sides of the issue.

  • there is a lot of ignorance, hatred and influence of culture that is stopping us from behaving the way the Prophet (PBUH) would...Suba7anAllah...

Seriously, a lot of comments are just disturbing... I have a question to everybody who is against this documentary...

Zarqa, stated her opinion with evidence backing up her claim... As civilized people, can anybody come up with evidence from the Qur'an and Hadith that in the time of the Prophet (PBUH) barriers were in existence?

    thank you.

  • where's part two?

  • @sweetpyramidgirl the dirty prick mohammed was a pedo'/rapist/liar/thief/necrophile/taker of slaves/MURDERER of innocents

yet you claim today people are more perverted than THAT lol

try telling women who get beaten/even killed over hijab in worlds hottest temps, who suffer hideous scalp sores/infections/even infestations that such is 'freedom'

  • @AudioEngineerSara all u have to do is remember the 3 day bloody massacre in Mumbai India, the dc snipers john Allan mohamed & levoy malvo 2002, the 1993 world trade bombings, the Muslim us soldiers who kill other us soldiers, then u will see how the devil has blinded all stupid Muslims

  • MashAllah sister! Nice videos. I really like how your videos are not just rants but rational evaluation of this issue with references and stories from time of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Khalifas. I really do want the mosques to allow the women to pray without a barrier if they want to. (I am a guy btw).

  • all women should wear hijab regardless of their religion, during the prophets times people were less perverts but today you cant even go to the nearby store and coming back without a man hitting on you or staring. these men irritate me and they should at least look in the mirror before hitting on someone.it should be illegal to aproach a woman u dont know. or stare at her.thats gender discrimination and hijab is freedom

  • dddd

  • where's part 2?

  • I'm going to buy this DVD

  • Refer to the Muslim scholars for guidance. There shouldn't be any controversy at all.
