appears bolt moved back too far and struck the rear of the receiver too hard. Bolt charging handle channel also shows signs of impact on rearward end of it's travel. Temperature at time of event was about 35 degrees...mild by Wyoming standards.

  • The SU16 is super light. Great backpacking gun in Eberlestock pack and scabbard. IMO, if you intend to load it down with accessories, get AR. Light weight an folded compact is this rifle's strength. Being light it is a bit harder to shoot well, than something like a long, heavy M1 Garand

  • Weaver Grand Slam. Great scope..love it. But I do not like it paired with SU16C...gets in the way of field stripping...have to remove the scope. Once the holographic sights get a bit lighter, I'll switch.

  • Probably had about 2000 rounds thru it. Turn around time, including shipping, was about three weeks. Kel-Tec service is very good.

  • Kel-tec has provided no forensics answer. However, I think maybe the gas system rod may have unthreaded a bit from the bold carrier, the added length allowing the bold carrier to slam into the back of the receiver. Not sure since I didn't dissect the rifle before I sent it in for repair. Still my favorite rifle...so much so that I bought one for each member of my family and also bought an SU22 to allows for lots of inexpensive practice on the platform.

  • Got my SU16C back from Kel-Tec today. Looks great. New receiver and new barrel. And new bolt and carrier. They even included on a new rear sight (I didn't send mine in) and included a lock nut for my flash suppressor (instead of the crush washer I had) which allowed me to better position the closed part of the suppressor down so it wouldn't raise a dust cloud. Actually like the black receiver mixed up with my painted stock and foregrip...may just keep it that way.

  • Not really. Maybe 30. Previous weeks it had been out in the negative numbers.

  • Hey man. I'm thinking of buying one of these but I'm a little worried about the plastic reviver... its kind of a turn off but do you notice the plastic instead of metal?

  • @raggedyedge

You got it. Seems to be something to watch for as mine is starting to loosen up. Calling keltec to see if I can weld it and keep my warranty?

  • raggedyedge, Good that you got your SU16 back. I like the camo paint job you did with the gun and the scope.

  • I got my SU16 back yesterday. Brand new gun as far as I can tell. Kel-Tek upgraded my sights from plastic to steel for no charge. I'm very happy with it. They haven't told me what went wrong with the last one.

  • now that ive heard that 2 rifels have failed just in this format on this video is good enouph to me not to buy a kel-tec su 16 good video and thanks for the heads up, i think i will stick to the ruger sr 556, and my mini...

  • thanks for the heads up, glad to see KT took care of you. Atleast something to keep an eye out in terms of preventitive maint.

  • Good video! My SU16 broke the same way last weekend. I shipped it to KelTec Monday. I'm glad they took care of it for you, I'm hoping for the same. KelTec makes good stuff, Im surprised this happened.
