Showing her great flair for dramatic acting, this clip from "Beauty for the Asking," filmed in 1938, is from a time in Lucille Ball's career when she was known more for her dramatic roles than comedic. The critic for the New York Daily News wrote at the time: "This movie shows that Lucille Ball is of the stuff that stars are made of."

  • @TheMikejones87 Lucille Ball was stunning! Hardly compared to 99% of the hootchie-mamma 'hoes you see on tv/movies today. The Golden Age of Film had it all. You will not see that anywhere on screen today.

  • actress looked and acted so classy back then. I wish they still did!

  • Of course there's a cigarette in the scene. I WISH I could go back in time and yell at her and say "Ciggs Are Filthy and UnHealthy!!! Chew GUM!" -__- <3 RIP LUCY.

  • After an uncredited stint as one of the Goldwyn Girls in Roman Scandals (1933) she permanently moved to Hollywood to appear in films. She appeared in many small movie roles in the 1930s as a contract player for RKO Radio Pictures, including a two-reel comedy short with the Three Stooges (Three Little Pigskins, 1934) and a movie with the Marx Brothers (Room Service, 1938).

  • @MrLehnerd i didnt know that. thanks for that info. *off to search* haha :)

  • No one remembers she made her real start on the three stooges.
