HIGH QUALITY AVAILABLE. Shot live in the studio for German TV - but with no audience! Still, it makes for an excellent sounding - if somewhat eerie - concert.

Aided by several audio recordings, I can state that guitarist Bill Connors (seen here in excellent form) was replaced by Al DiMeola between April and May of 1974. So that makes this sligfhtly earlier.

I may include more from this show later on - but I'll give it a rest for now. In the meantime - enjoy!

  • I remember seeing this band several times during this era, and meeting them at a small club near Philly called THE MAIN POINT. I recall chatting with Bill for quite awhile, and he was very modest, but talked about practicing for hours out of Nicholas Slonimsky's THEASAURUS OF SCALES AND MELODIC PATTERNS. I was really bummed out when he left the group and was replaced by Al DIMeola.

  • WOOOW!! MAN this is such good footage!! THEY ARE ALL BEASTS!

  • @hawksapoozle Ive been digging on this music for 40 yrs. Im a musician+I think that makes it easier to comprehend the complexity but Ive turned nonmusicians on to it too. Many people have to have lyrics or a beat. My wife was hooked after I took her to see John Maclaughlin w/Trilok Gurtu+Jonas Helborg. A few years later we saw Jeff Beck and she got a better understanding of why I think he's one of the best. Hes not as fast as Bill or Al or JonMac, but his tone and technique...wow!

  • Yeah this music takes some time to be processed by the brain. But when it clicks, it stays!

  • Well, I like this stuff. It does tend to fry the brains of your average mortal, though. My wife can't stand it (not that she's average...right hon?). A daily dose of 70s fusion helps keep a brain from becoming senile. Lenny and Stanley--locked-in and grooving hard a warp speed.

  • There's no denying there are many great jazz fusion musicians, but really, when you splice these instrumental pieces end to end, I can't tell one piece from another. They all tend to sound the same. This is precisely why jazz fusion had a limited audience, and was short-lived.

I couldn't imagine paying money to sit through a 2 hour concert of this stuff - after 20 minutes, I'd be running for the exits. Sorry, but if I want to hear great musicianship, I'll stick to prog rock, or classical music.

  • why did they get rid of bill?

  • im foaming out the mouth

  • Nice music and Switcher work on the cameras!

  • @TheIrishlad12 OPEC got one thing right! Not really!
