This is a short extract from the end of a long master class conducted by Dmitri Bashkirov in Russian at the Conservatory of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance in May 2011. The lesson covered the first three parts of Schumann's Carnival Scenes from Vienna. Shown here is the third part (Scherzino). Dmitri Bashkirov, who was in Israel to judge the Rubinstein competition, was the guest of the Aldwell Center for Piano Performance and Musicianship, which is part of the Conservatory. Consecutive translation into Hebrew was provided for the audience by Michael Zertzekel. But Bashkirov's body language is so expressive that you don't really need to know either Russian or Hebrew to understand what he wants to convey.
