Luciano Pavarotti in the Peking Opera - and I quote again from his book:

"... Once I was invited to a Chinese opera. ... I am very interested in this traditional opera. ... The Chinese took a couple of scenes on for me, in costume and mask. When they were finished I went up to the stage to congratulate the singers, and I asked her suddenly spontaneously, if I could do the same also. I was not quite aware what I am embarking me there. I knew that there would be a complicated matter - but I had no idea it would be the people behind the stage, takes four hours to get my makeup and put me in one of these costumes. But once we had started it, for me there was no turning back. Actually, I was interested in the whole process very much, and I wanted to do not flinch.
Finally, when I was finished, I looked how a monster from which was to guard the entrance to a temple from evil spirits. We walked onto the stage and played a scene. The Chinese performers were singing to me their passages. Then I sang. I have a very good ear and think I'm a good mimic, so I replied improvising in their style, which sounded to me like Chinese opera. When I later saw the film, had someone tell me who was from the singers. My face was completely covered with black and white paint, and I was wearing a headdress, so I looked how Princess Turandot

  • Yes, this video is a wonderful documentary about the visit by Luciano in China. His appearance in the peking opera was brave and funny. About the how and what he was singing, I have write in my Informaton about the video, Luciano himself, I quoted him from his book. I thank you for your lovely comment, dear friend. Ciao:)))

  • Yes this is really funny how Luciano is singing here, yes the voice is sound beautiful despite the language, and maybe only becaue this, I would recogni\ze him after all even without seeing his head decoration.

  • I must correct my english here. yes the video is wonderfu. indeed wonderful and if I wouldn;t see the color of the ornament on the head of Luciano the yellow one, I wouldn't reconize him.
