Dortmund, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY - 1980 World Figure Skating Championships, Ladies' Long Program - Dagmar Lurz of West Germany placed 5th in the Long Program, but because of the very convoluted scoring system at the time, Lurz ended up winning the Silver Medal despite being beaten by Linda Fratianne (USA) in overall ordinals and in total points.
I do not dislike her by any means, and I am happy for her that she was able to win the silver here. But I am having a hard time understanding how a tremendously talented compulsory figures skater like Dagmar could have such poor basic skills in free skating... Her edging is weak, which theoretically shouldn't be the case. There is absolutely no depth to her edging whatsoever, and she appears to have difficulty holding a steady edge at times. This is really odd.
