The letters and the shapes were in the same order, he just memorized the order to touch them in. I think to prove if he really knows the shapes & how to spell his name etc., you should have mixed them up a few times. He still may be smarter than most horses, but this doesn't prove whether he knows how to spell his name or which shapes are which.

if you look, the shapes were in the same order as the letters. L - Heart, U - Butterfly, C - Square, A - Horse, S - Star.

Was amazing but the letter were in the same order as the animals.... but still amazing how he remembered the pattern !!

The thing is, when he mucked up a couple of the shapes, and she told him to do the square again, why did he know to go the square and not forward to the next shape?

yes some times they were in the same order, but if you go back and watch she lightly pushes the horses head in the direction of what hes suppost to touch.
