On Sept. 21 a little after 7 am, just 10 days after a crash just a quarter-mile away, the Gold Line hit a pick-up truck, once again crumbling the vehicle. The crash initiated a fire that greatly damaged the light rail vehicle and left a broken skeleton of the pick-up. The Avenue 50 crossing was protested by the Mount Washington Association requesting it be grade separated. The arbiter, the California Public Utilities Commission, denied their request.

Nobody's fault but the driver. With quad gates installed at this crossing, she, according to multiple witnesses, intentionally drove around the gates. Maybe they do need grade crossings in LA not because they didn't do enough already to protect the crossing, but because a lot of LA drivers are MFFY's and lack any common sense. This lady should be held responsible for the damage, injuries, and inconvenience to those affected this morning.
