Drowning Polar Bears became one of the symbols of climate change, so we decided to find out what really happens with these magnificent creatures and created this video to share with other interested in.

The key danger posed by global warming to Polar Bears is malnutrition or starvation due to habitat loss. Polar bears hunt seals from a platform of sea ice. Rising temperatures cause the sea ice to melt earlier in the year, driving the bears to shore before they have built sufficient fat reserves to survive the period of scarce food in the late summer and early fall. Reduction in sea-ice cover also forces bears to swim longer distances, which further depletes their energy stores and occasionally leads to drowning. Thinner sea ice tends to deform more easily, which appears to make it more difficult for polar bears to access seals. Insufficient nourishment leads to lower reproductive rates in adult females and lower survival rates in cubs and juvenile bears, in addition to poorer body condition in bears of all ages.

Other risks to the polar bear include pollution in the form of toxic contaminants, conflicts with shipping, stresses from recreational polar-bear watching, oil and gas exploration and development, as well "potential risk of over-harvest" through legal and illegal hunting. In this video we decided not to use graphic images of trophy hunters from The Humane Society of the United States but still must inform you that about 500 Polar Bears are killed by American and Canadian hunters every year.

In this video we used footage from BBC documentaries "Blue Planet" and "Polar Bear" (Wildlife Special), as well CBC Doc Zone documentary "Battle For The Arctic". As audio we used Eric Polaire song "Polar Bear" in remix from Michel Cleis.

And as with our other videos please watch in High Quality.

  • Мы в силах разрушить, время творить

  • @TheViktoritet

    Вы правы.

Верится, что время творить впереди. Это будет нужно, даже необходимо.

Ощущение, что надвигаются большие перемены в мире. Слишком много разрухи, все как то не так...

  • The ice melts and comes back every year just like we have winter and summer so do they lol.

  • The other plannets in our solar system are getting warmer because the sun is getting hotter, man made global warming has nuthing to do with it. Look up the mideavil warming period LOL...

  • Here's a quick summary of the threat to polar bears: In 2005, 5 populations were declining, 5 were stable, and 2 were growing. A mere 4 years later, in 2009, there were 8 declining, 3 stable, and 1 growing. The Hudson Bay population had decreased 22% since the 1980's. All of us can voluntarily do things to help make a difference. I started a recycling program where I work, and I drive more moderately. Also, I joined Polar Bears International.

  • Polar bears are not good "at adapting to warmer environment." First of all, they are cold loving animals. Second of all, although they are strong animals and at the top of the food chain, they are vulnerable to global warming as well. They are losing sea ice, it is melting. Without that hunting ground, they will eventually starve. And please don't believe the oil trolls posting lies all over youtube about it.

  • These polar bears seem pretty good at adapting to a warmer environment. Also, if their envvironment warms, then there will be more food available for their prey, and thus more food for them. Polar bears adapt just like any other animal does. Toxic waste and pollution do threaten all of us, but not "global warming." Have you heard about "Climategate" yet? Humans do not, and cannot, control the climate, but no shame in admitting you were misled.

  • Wow, that was amazing. You never realise just how dangerous it is for polar bears. I think the most affecting scenes were the ones with the polar bear eating grass, the last one with the water/ice, and the one where you showed the world and the ice going green.
