This is from the Land of Heart's Desire, a play by W.B. Yeats. It's the song of a faery's child. You can find the play here.

The most prolific of the Victorian Fairy painters was
John Anster Fitzgerald. Included are three examples painted between 1850 and 1860. These depict English fairies, not Irish faeries, but I have it on good authority that they are remarkably similar.

  • I was absolutely thrilled reading this drama yesterday. This is art indeed!

  • I love this speech and I love this whole play from whence it came. Thank you for reading it so wistfully. I don't know if that's the word I'm looking for but there is so much yearning in this speech and you have captured it.
