The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors in Virginia has appointed 12 right wing republican citizens to the Leesburg Courthouse Grounds and Facilities committee and has mandated they come up with a plan that will delineate what holiday displays will be allowed on the courthouse lawn during the holiday season. The plan is to allow a county sponsored nativity scene along with a christmas tree and perhaps a menorah and a santa claus (as a way to pass legal muster). Beltway Atheists, Inc. was there to speak out against this plan and to listen to their deliberations. They have made clear that the committee will vote to spit on the constitution and to formally endorse a county government sponsored nativity scene which will cost Loudoun County thousands if not millions of dollars in a lawsuit that may ensue from this.

These places that put up these displays in full foreknowledge that they will lose the case must be great places to live. I mean, if they have millions of dollars to burn on hopeless legal battles, then I have to imagine their schools are fully funded, roads all in great repair, homeless shelters and elderly assistance thriving, and their police and firefighters have all the money and equipment they need, right?

    Right?

Very well said. I love the kid burning his fingers analogy. Let them dare go ahead, please post updates, thanks. And thanks for fighting the good fight.

    Let the games begin...

Unfortunately, more religious displays are being put up on government property around the country. I'll bet the Republicans on this committee are just itching to be the next "success story" against the perceived "war on religion", and they'll have good funding behind them.

    I wish you luck.
