This is the last SM-1 Missile launch, of USS Boone FFG-28, before they removed the MK-13 missile launcher from the FFG platform. Second missile looses a guidance fin and crashes into the ocean.
I was on the Ben Stoddert (DDG-22)... the Stark was one of the ships that relieved us. I've got photos from when we did the turn-over. If memory serves, USS Coontz was in the same task force.
A shipmate of mine from bootcamp (Kelly Quick) was killed in that attack. RIP Kelly. :-(
I'm so glad my ship escaped this , Its in Egypt armed and ready ( USS Gallery FFG 26 ) ,,, those gutless admirals left proud ships with no weapons , they're sinking spruance class ships ,, its crazy , at least they could have put a 5 inch gun off the DD's their sinking on the FFG's
I saw something very similar happen onboard DDG-10 back in 1982. Launched missile to port, damned thing curly-cued and looped over us, and hit water on starboard side prob 700 yards away. Wow.
Who makes this missile?

I was on the USS Stark (FFG-31) when it was attacked. FFG's were built for the coast guard. This video was typical.
