Selena walked through the halls of her the high school alongside Nick, only one thing on her mind—Joe Adams. After finding out the times his father entered and left their house, she was willing to do everything and anything to get inside. She will find a way to befriend Joe if it is the last thing she'll do; she'll make sure of it.
As usual, Selena came to class five minutes before necessary—one of the sacrifices that came with being Nick's "adoptive" sister. However, this time, she did not sit beside Nick. She instead took a seat in the very back—where she knew Joe liked to sit. With a mischievous smile etched onto her face, she placed her binder and notebook on the desk and sat on the chair, waiting for Joe to come in and react to her surprise.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Miley entered Miss Dickons's classroom hoping to sit in her usual seat. However, Little Miss Perfect—Selena Gomez—stole her seat, and so, she had no choice but to sit next to Nick—Selena's brother—for she was not ready to take Joe Adams's seat and face his wrath. As intimidating as Miley was, she knew her limits, she knew when to stop, she knew when to draw the line; and irritating Joe Adams was crossing the line, that she knew.
"I hate your sister," Miley stated, as she swiftly took a seat beside Nick.
Nick turned around to acknowledge the person who just insulted Selena like that. Evidently, he was going to defend her, just like any brother was expected to, but then he caught sight of Miley, and he turned speechless; how was he supposed to stand up to . . . Miley? Not only did she scare him, but he also loved her; he didn't know what was more terrifying, to be honest. "She's not my sister." Nick replied as casually as he could.
"Adoptive-sister; whatever. I still hate her. The bitch took my seat." Miley commented bitterly; her body was positioned in a tensed way, as if she was ready to pounce on anybody who was willing to increase her temper; her eyes were narrowed into slits; her lips formed into a pout; her shoulders hunched.
"What's so bad about sitting beside me?" Nick mumbled confidently; he hadn't meant for her to hear, but nevertheless, she had, and at the comment, Miley couldn't help but to instantly turn her head around to take a good, long gaze at Nick.
"I didn't mean it like that," she whispered, sincerity tinted in her every word.
"Sure seems like you did," Nick retorted; his confidence to speak to her rose with every word spoken.
"Sorry," she said. "I'm just having a bad day."
"That doesn't give you the right to act like a bitch to me." Nick put in, indignantly. He then took his pen and started scribbling random lyrics on his notebook, as if pretending talking to her right now wasn't the highlight of his day; as if it wasn't what he was hoping for, for the past two weeks.
"Let me make it up to you then. . ." she insisted. "Let me take you out on a date."
"Wait. . . you're asking me out?" Nick turned to face her, the shock was overwhelming him.
"Yeah, so?"
"It's just. . .isn't the guy supposed to ask the girl out?" He replied; all the confidence he gained vanished the moment she suggested the proposition.
"If you haven't realized yet, I don't exactly play by the rules."
