It took Angie forever to imitate signs, i felt she would never get it! Finally, when she was 8 years old she signed *please*. Since then she has picked up a few more signs.

  • Yes, Alpha, Angie is a sibling of Mandy's.

  • Actually, most cases of AS are not hereditary. What test did you have done to diagnose your child? The FISH test is the most frequent, the detects Del +, and the reocurrance rate with that is less than 1%. It's important to know what test was done. Let me know if you have any other questions

  • hello,

Yes, Angelman Syndrome is genetic, with any disability if a deletion or mutation is found in the gene's, it is usually considered genetic. In the case of my children it is hereditay, which means it can be inherited from a parent, like eye color can be inherited. I am a carrier of AS, which is how my children have it. To have Angelman Syndrome hereditary is very rare.

Hope this helps, thanks for the questions.

  • Is Angie a sibling of Mandy ?

  • We are recently getting the results the lab, they say it's positive to AS. I though that being a genetic disorder was considered hereditary. So, beside hereditary cases, what other cases are found?

  • is angelman syndrome genetic?
