Reports are coming out of southern China's Zengcheng City that the Chinese military has put down another massive protest. It comes on the heels of the beating of a pregnant woman who was attacked by a Chinese police officer. Here's the latest on the story.

Unrest has broken out on the streets of a southern Chinese city that saw protests over the weekend. Police and military units have been brought in to enforce a curfew... days after migrant workers took to the streets... condemning the beating of a pregnant migrant worker by police in Zencheng City.

Migrant workers from Sichuan Province, unhappy for a long list of reasons, plan to strike for a month.

Chinese authorities mobilized 2,700 soldiers from the nearby Guangdong Military Base on the night of June 12 and another 5,000 police on June 13, according to report from the Hong Kong-based newspaper Apple Daily.

From late June 12 to early June 13, tens of thousands of Zencheng residents took to the streets in protest and clashed with police. A witness tells NTD that countless protesters had emerged, wave after wave. Gunshots were heard as the police used tear gas and police batons to disperse the crowd.

Zengcheng is around an hour's drive from Guangzhou, the affluent capital of Guangdong Province, which produces about a third of the country's exports.

About 150 million workers have moved from the countryside to the city in search of a better standard of living.

Although their wages have improved in recent years, there remains a stark income gap between migrant workers and those who originally hail from the city.

  • All of you seem to miss the point.(For all of you who think China is not a formidable opponent wake up you are dreaming again.) The point you are missing is why aren't U.S. News organizations covering this? Why all the look this way(the Middle East) and not at China? Where are the 99%? Why aren"t THEY SAYING something? Mr. President, Newt, Romney,Perry,CNN, FOX News, CBS, NBC, and ABC what is with you guys?

  • @A1R5N1P3R I'm glad someone else finally realized that, too. People who talk about China as a legitimate threat are a bunch of fucking imbeciles who listen to Mitt Romney and Newt Pigrich way too much.

  • China will never win a war, because the second most of the military leaves home, the revolt and overthrow of the CCP will begin.

  • long live china hope everyone is ok

  • China will never become a superpower if the chinese government function like a bunch of street thugs

  • 1:39 Ummmmm, what's up with all the CRTs? You'd be hard pressed to find any of these on sell on any shelves in America. Wouldn't surprise me to find out that is old reel footage or something. That, or China is WAYYYY behind the times.

  • what the fuck is up with china and why the fuck did a police man beat a pregnant woman, if the officer wasn't punished, i would say that constitutes china being punished

  • Sichuan migrants should move back to rebuild Sichuan province.

  • No #MadeinChina
