@lewashcliffe "lacked in power or range"? Really? Do you mean the same guy who sang Otello for 30 years and is now singing baritone roles?

@prairywriter5 I recall someone once wrote of Domingo that he is as much a poet as he is a singer. Perhaps having grown up onstage with his parents, or perhaps of an inborn romance that may have come from his Spanish/Mexican heritage, but Placido seeks to really understand in depth the meaning and colours of the words conveyed by his music. That is what has made him so loved and so popular in so many countries of the world.

@lewashcliffe I wholeheartedly agree. A man directing an opera in rehearsal once told a principal soloist to "Depart from the text and sing the meaning." Placido Domingo could do that splendidly -- and he did, again and again.
Placido has a nice stage presence doesn't he?

Whatever Domingo may have lacked in power or range, he more than made up for in sheer vocal beauty and musicality. He is a true musician and dramatacist both of which combined to create an outstanding career in the opera which he continues into his 70's, something few other singers have ever matched.
