  • And then you have your evolutionists and you creationists. If the music evolved then it is probably older than that. If Hashem created the music then He didn't make it one note in a bar, but as a fully adult functioning and breathing fire.

  • I've read and memorized THE BOOK on music theory and have composed music in numerous time and key signatures and don't give a crap what anyone says about 12s 16s 19s or what have you. All your comments have to do with A. performance and or B. western music only. So let's have done with the nonsense and just enjoy the music which is why i put it up here in the first place. It's like saying the universe is a googolplex years old. No one can wrap their minds around a number like that.

  • 7/4 the most awesome of all time signatures

  • @DwArFbUtTeR I agree, it's music man, if you can play anything more complex than this and have it sound as good as this, then all the power to you, in the end its what the audience likes, and this song is just pure genius, enough said.

  • lol: some fool disliked this

  • I just wish I could play a musical instrument !!!! I admire these people so much.

  • Brilliant Brubeck! I have loved his music since I was a teen, (65 now), & in particular this one, I was about the only one in my class that could keep time in 7/4, the others thought it was mad.

This performance was so brilliant, it made me feel very happy for Brubeck as he received the occalades he so rightly deserved.

  • @hellojacobhitch4545 yep,, 7 beats to the bar and a quarter note gets one beat, so there are 7 quarter note beats counted in each bar. The best way to get your head around it is to beat with your foot 3 even beats and at the same time tap with your fingers 7 beats. After the 3rd foot tap you will do 2 finger taps and start again. Easy!

  • You're not going to switch between 8/16 + 7/16 if the intended effect is 15/16. You'd lose the 4+4+4+3 implied. Same goes for 19/16. 12/16 + 7/16 may communicate (4+4+4)+4+3 effectively enough, but it's tedious to switch back and forth. Once you pass the the typical 4 or 5 beats (16/16, 20/16 or their alterations give or take a few sixteenths) I think it loses purpose. There's a good wikipedia article on unusual meters.

  • @drewnicholsmusic I don't need your justification. It's in the score of a blockbuster musical theatre piece.

  • @drewnicholsmusic Give me the name of the song and maybe I'll justify your comeback.

  • @CaptGrout You are obviously not familiar with the range of works by twentieth century classical composers.
