It's been a while since I've uploaded a video but I made this as a tribute to Ronald Spiers since today is the one year anniversary since he passed away:(
I made in kind of rush so it may not be the best but I wanted to honor Speirs in some kind of way. I intended to make it a slideshow at first but then I added some video clips to it and it ended up like this, I only used part of the song too.
The song is Schism by the band Tool.
By the way here is his full statement he made to Private Albert Blithe during the Battle of Bloody Gulch:
"You hid in that ditch because you think there's still hope. But Blithe, the only hope you have is to accept the fact that you're already dead. And the sooner you accept that, the sooner you'll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function. Without mercy. Without compassion. Without remorse. All war depends upon it."

  • It is a dangerous and somewhat pointless exercise to debate the merits of one counties top award for bravery over another as it is to debate the relative risk and danger of one campaign over another. As a NZer I would say that if you think "Crete was a picnic" you need to read more history. Commonwealth soldiers fought hand to hand with the German paratroops as they landed. As for the merits of either bravery award I know which one I place the highest value on.

  • There is too much information to post on this site but I recommend that you look up his bio on Wikipedia. He must have been the consummate Soldier. He had a distinguished military career after WWII attended a Russian language course in 1956 and was assigned as a liaison officer to the Red Army in Potsdam, East Germany. In 1958 he became the American Governor of the Spandau Prison in Berlin. He went on to serve in Korea and in 1962, was a member of the U.S. Mission to the Royal Lao Army.
