He has posted a reasonable and complete explanation as to why he voted on the bill. Even Justin Amash backed Rand Paul on his Facebook page.

Adam, The NDAA bill this year did not have the indefinite detention clause in it, that was last years bill. The bill this year had an amendment which he supported to eliminate the indefinite detention of american citizens.

To Devin, it doesn't work that way. As automation increases, it is true that jobs are lost. But those people are free to pursue other things ten, right? Maybe some will go into business themselves, others (most, I guess) will get new jobs, or look for them. Meanwhile, the increased profits from automating production have to go somewhere, and they go into increased production in the same industry, or into a new production venture. Either way, new employees are needed.
