Alan Terlinsky MD from Arlington , Northern Virginia, metropolitian washington, DC discuses the plight of primary care physicians. There are decreasing numbers of primary care physicians due to low pay, increased government and insurance company regulations and redtape. Primary care doctors are turning to concierge medicine in order to remain in practice. The doctor can provide better care for the patient. Patients will have difficulty finding primary care physicians especially since health care reform has increased the demand . More patients will be forced to see less trained and knowledgeable nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Doctors can not spend enough time with patients and are rushing to increase volume to try to keep falling income from completely putting them out of business.
