Ellen Snortland takes 5 minutes to share some of her philosophy behind her mission to make self-defense a part of general education. She asserts that teaching basic self-protection skills needs to be a priority for global problem solving. This video covers some basics of Snortland's 18 years of work on the movement to make self-defense universally available to women and kids.

Elsewhere Snortland says, "When a body has cells that attack itself, it is called a cancer or an immune disorder. Similarly, I assert that violence in general, and male violence toward women and kids in specific, is to the globe what HIV/ AIDS is to the body: it creates an unhealthy host that makes it susceptible to other 'diseases.' Therefore, empowering women and girls to stop an assault in the moment, and also raising children to see that females are not inherently victims of male violence could allow the planet to recover sufficiently to take on other areas of violence, like war..."
