  • Fionasapple, may I suggest listening to Jon's older material, it's out there *hinting at my description*. If you only brought up Beautiful Disaster and So Close then I feel sorry for you because those are 2 of his more known songs and So Close is not even his. He just provided vocals on that track. In terms of piano-playing, I think he has songs way better than those 2. And if you don't like "simple" music, why are you commenting anyways? You could've just chosen to ignore it altogether

  • Wow, you guys are really going at it back and forth.. and I don't mind really. I'm in no way defending kani92 but I do agree with some of his/her points. Jon's style is improvisation, SOME of the time. Sometimes he will play it like the album and sometimes he will just have fun and improvise the song. The version that you hear from the video is improvisation because it's way different from the album.

  • i dont want ur links thanks

and his music isn't good, it's FANTASTIC.

    iMo

  • i didn't mean it that way. i mean it was awful for me.

it's a matter of taste. but it really might be good after all :D

  • This is my favorite out of all the others (in terms of music).

and as for the pianism issue. i'll post 2 examples of what i think is good piano-playing. one's going to be a pop/rock song (nice use of chords) and the other a classical piece showing virtuosity

i'll actually send them to you cuz i don't think they allow posting url's on the comments page.

  • ok, you're talking about Beautiful Disaster and So Close.

HOW ON EARTH CAN YOU CONCLUDE THAT SO CLOSE IS "just awful"!!!???? everyone who's seen that movie (which happens to be Enchanted btw) LOVED that song.

and you make it sound like simplicity is a bad thing..........wtf?

  • i have in fact.

i've heard a couple of them. off the top of my head there's Indiana, the one where he says "loves her momma's lemonade" and there's this one song he sang for a movie which was just awful.

maybe it's just me. i don't like music that sounds THAT simple. Chord progressions that are very predictable are just not my thing.

  • have you heard any of his music apart from this one piece.

because if you have then you should know that i'm not "waaaay off".

  • i'll take a guess and say you haven't heard a lot of pianists.

as far as the rock/pop genre goes, he's ok. maybe even a great pianist (not a good composer. but somewhat decent technique)

but if you're talking about pianists in general, i don't have a doubt in my mind that you're waaaay off.

  • i'm not trying to be rude so don't take it the wrong way.

and i'm not implying that i KNOW the meaning of music but i know what good music is when i hear it. Jon is one of the best pianists i've heard and just to see/hear someone say he has sloppy playing just doesn't make sense. maybe his style is sloppy TO YOU, but his playing is some of the best out there.
