This is Castleton station just down the road from the Lancashire town of Rochdale and here we have a light-engine move with the mainline Class 40 Preservation Society machine 40145 that has just left the East Lancashire Railway, and now on its way to Tyseley for maintenance and tyre turning. After this, on the 12th April 2008, this CFPS 2000hp engine will haul a rail tour to East Anglia. The date is Tuesday 25th March 2008 and this is a short video taken in overcast weather conditions.
Hi Panarail, these liveries go around in circles and so it will not be long before 40145 is back in green, I would guess. But as you say, the loco is still running and that is almost a miracle to say that they were only meant to last 15 years or so. John Wantling, Rochdale

Hi John, I remember seeing 40145 as 40445 many years ago and was initially horrified. I also recall seeing a black warship (as on one of my video clips) and a black 24. Surprisingly, those I didn't find objectionable. The whole point should be that the loco is still with us and still running. We should all be grateful to those that preserved these wonderful specimens.
It's a great clip of a great loco.

Hi Panarail, that nameplate will always be controversial. Its the modern image 40145 that is in conflict with the historic. Its good for politics but not good in other respects. John Wantling, Rochdale

Last time I saw a nameplate like that, it was on a 37. Not that I object to 40145 carrying it. Great to see a 40 out on the main line !!!!

Thanks piclablue, in fact I made a bit of a mess of this one and this is why it is so short but this was the best bit by far. John Wantling, Rochdale, UK
