On Monday night, Nov. 16 WSDOT shifted traffic onto the 4,000-foot-long section of the SR 410 winter-durable detour. On Tuesday morning, Nov. 17 Yakima County started to divert the water from the old river channel to the new channel. With the diversion of water, fish were stranded. On Wednesday, Nov. 18 WSDOT in collaboration with U.S. Fish and Wildlife and nine other agencies started rescuing fish. An electric current stunned the fish, then they were netted and put in buckets. The buckets were taken to a bubbler tank and transported six miles up stream and released. Over two days, they rescued about 550 fish.
