We are blessed with visits from this hawk and others almost every day. They are constantly battling with the crows. For best viewing watch in HQ. [10/31/09 - 4:55pm]

  • Cooper hawks EAT the birds that you're feeding. They like bird feeders because it presents them a buffet of birds to kill without even having to hunt for them. Take the feeder down for a week and the hawks will return to hunting in the wild and not at your feeder.

  • @tipidweller that doesn't work when I'm not the only one feeding the birds in my community. The hawks only come by once or twice a month, if that often, and most of the time they fail to get a meal. It's all part of nature and I enjoy seeing the hawks, too.

  • I love this video! What kind of hawk is this? It looks a bit like the sharp-shinned hawk that visits my area.

One of my bird feeders with lots of bird suet is outside one of my windows near my computer. When pesky starlings come & take over the feeder while screeching & fighting with each other, I just hit play and they hear the hawk in this video and fly away! Sometimes it gets the crows all excited too!

Thank you for sharing this excellent video.

  • @CindyPDX This is a Cooper's hawk, a larger version of a sharp-shinned hawk. Glad you like it, thanks.

  • Absolutely beautiful! We've got one up at our local park and you talk about raptor paradise! Between the pigeons, the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, n' doves to nosh on and and a whole lotta crows to bully and harass, she's having a helluva nice time and giving us mere humans a terrific show. It's still a juvenile and I suppose will move on once she's grown, but for the time being she's a spectacular sight and sometimes she'll allow us to get close enough to take a few photos of her.

We have at least three Cooper's Hawks living & feeding in our neighborhood at the moment. They feed on top of the telephone pole in the corner of our yard, and we used to have plenty of song birds, but they're either in deep hiding or gone. These hawks vocalize the feeding sound to each other almost all day long so I'm assuming we have one or more juveniles being fed. The current level of depredation of other birds is visible and distressing. I miss our songbirds.

  • lol.....his calling is like..he is coughing...but i still love it....i love bird of prey....
