Web pages may be viewed on different computers with different browser sizes and different resolutions. This can mean that a design that you thought looks good and fills a page, might actually be small and look a little odd on a different computer.
A way to combat this is to centre your design on the page and give it a background. This way your design will adapt itself to different window sizes.
This tip involved editing the html of the template, so proceed with caution!
All done using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 on a Mac.

  • When I use it to center my layout, it centers all the text aswell.

    How do I avoid this?

  • @DARKEMO211

Have you layed your webpage out using tables?

If not, then this method doesn't really work.

I don't know what sort of level your skills are at or what software you use to write your webpages (if any at all), but if you are a beginner and use Dreamweaver, can I suggest you look at my videos about making a website using CSS?

  • Great...thank you! I have another homepage based on templates, who can I center the template??

  • @helenenavasse It depends what type of template you used. if it is a template based on tables it will work as described, if the template is based on CSS then it will not work and you will need to edit the css code. If you look at my channel I have a play list that explains how to make a website using CSS. The first video explains how to center the page when creating the divs. How easy and understandable that will be depends on your skill level though.

    I hope its useful.
