Test render of Renamon, a character from the popular Digimon franchise.

3D mesh and texture by Wildroo (used with permission).
Rigging, walk cycle, and rendering by me.

I ran a couple levels of Catmull-Clark subdivision on the mesh before importing it into Poser, which unfortunately smoothed over some of her pointier bits. I'll need to re-sharpen her claws and fur tufts before I'm finished with her.

Software used includes Maya, Ultimate Unwrap 3D, and Poser 6.

  • So what do I look up to find a 3D graphic design thing? 0.o I want to know because it seems really interesting.

  • If you want to make your own stuff from scratch, you might start by Google-searching for a couple of freeware modelling apps -- Wings 3D or Blender 3D. I don't use them, myself, but I've heard plenty of positive reviews ... along with a few choice words about Blender's non-user-friendly interface.

If you'd rather play with existing posable figures, I can recommend a freeware character studio app, DAZ Studio, available at daz3d . com. It's somewhat Poser-compatible.

  • Nice 3D, how do you do that? Can you please tell me? I would like to know.

  • Well, I spent several years mastering the idiosyncracies of at least a half-dozen software applications, including two modeling programs, a UV-mapping tool, a paint program for texture-making, and a character-studio app called Poser 7.

    Your mileage may vary.

  • Just to let you know her tail is a bit round. You probably already knew though or fixed it.

  • I'm aware of it. I've been using a different model of Renamon lately.

  • Hey there! It's done. It's done quite well. And the animation is quite smooth and natural.

The tail looks kinda big and off tho. Try a different technique...

Ps your mesh smooth destroyed the face. The face corners should be sharp. And the head lookskinda too flat.

But, other than that, it's good ! 5/5

PS try rendering it in Maya with toon plugin. Should be interesting...

  • too much kick-back on her feet

  • eyes don't look right

  • I love renamon, very realistic, very cool, great vid 10/5!!!

  • I know walk animations are hard but you might want to add a bit of a drag on the wrist to make her seem more relaxed the feet sems fine almost like how she walked on the anime

  • Personally, I say it's a good start.

  • The feet animation look a little off. It looks like she is trying to kick dirt behind her as she walks. The flicking of her feet does not look right. Try having a friend walk back and forth in front of you and watch how their feet move. Also have an animation of her walking without spinning, that should help you pinpoint exactly what looks off.

  • You should make a fan Digimon movie!

  • dip it pop ittwirk it stop it cheeeck on me

  • good modeling, goor rigging, good all!

  • Ah, alright then. Thank you very much. =3
