When I converted to FM in the late '80s, I listened to Q107 but I recall they had a talk at 1pm so I think I was trying to find another station that played rock music and I came across CFNY and lo and behold the first song I heard on there was Fat Boys singing The Twist. Don't know why I still remember what the first song was but it blew me away. As I turned into my mid-teens my music taste had went from Top 40 (AM) to ROCK and HIP HOP. Then came along HTZfm in early '90s. LOL. Good times though
@chameleonday - That "alternative" format was the only format I knew - simply the best commercial radio station of its time, possibly in all of North America. They played so much good music, and knew how to play a song the right amount of times - not too much, not too little.
Man, they looked like kids! Time flies. I haven't listend to 102.1 since they murdered, I mean, fired Martin Streek. Humble and Fred went to am radio and eventually disappeared. Fred is suit for the corporate head office now I hear, and think Humble is on the air, somewhere....
@MikeG666 Why Humble and Fred may seem awsome to some snot nosed kid like you from the Toronto burbs there was so much talent out there that was so much better then them who they just ripped off . In 1989 Howard Stern was rockin New York and the country a long with people like Ron and Ron in Florida and Steve and Gary in Chicago . Humble and Fred were nothing more then third rate hacks compared to the real talent in radio .
I remember when Humble Howard was the 'host' of Ed's Night Party on the old CITY-TV.

CFNY 102.1 Brampton! back when they were on Kennedy Rd. Humble and Fred are THE best! I still have my "#1 in '97, now what?" t-shirt.

I loved CFNY back in the 80s before the nineties when they changed to that 'alternative' format.
