Good job. Typically a disc separates the lift from stars. It provides all that is needed to throw the stars into the air. I have however had success with a method similar to yours.
An important note: When using a glue gun on live devices, never have it plugged in. Heat the gun, then unplug it before using. They have been known to short out and send sparks into the work area. Many have had a close call as a result.
