A version of the Beach Boys' Heroes and Villains I made using different pieces of different versions as well as some rare session tapes.

  • I agree, it appears to be a great combinations of end to end audio, well chosen. Did you mean, speaking as a perfectionist, that what you'd hoped for was even better, but you knew you'd sunk plenty of time - already? I haven't listened to each version - dating back, but I think this comes off well. Van Dyke Parks had such a unique retro influence, good for what Wilson was exploring musically. Anyway, I dug it. Hear my BeatnikJazz GoodAndGooder SurelyYouJoust batsinyourbelfry JamaicaMeanOmelette.

  • You'll be surprised how many times I'm asked that;) I meant that I beleive Heroes and Villains to incorperate all the music ideas and themes while being about 3 minutes long. Also, the vocals are clearer in some sections and I almost went crazy trying to fix that. After the Cantina part, it looses it's 'momentum' I'm working on a new mix.

Van and Brian were great together. Van was VERY dedicated to SMiLE; more so than Brian.

Have you heard my Good Vibrations mix, I'm sure you'd like it.

  • Great job! I'm glad to see someone take the original tapes and mix them. I think your version is a better representation of the music than the 2004 Smile album, although I am glad to see Brian Wilson put that album together. It's too bad he never finished his original work from 66'-67'.

  • It's not really like I imagine it...regardless thanx for your comment. I'm working on Wonderful/Child is Father of the Man

  • Ok guys want to hear a great version of SMILE.

The Purple Chick version has it all in stereo. The Cantina bit of Heores is restored

on it, and mixed prefectly. Look around you tube it's posted

  • ...That was the best part. It represents everything that was happening to Brian at the time this was written.

  • @brabon1 I would still much rather have an apparently 'inferior' sounding Brian, alive and playing and improving himself as a mucian and improving the lives of his audience than just a recording..... one thing that heartens me is observing how Brian is now doing the musical 'apprenticeship' with the Disney and Gershwin albums, learning his and other people's music works, that he should have pursued during the time when first became depressed.

  • Very clever and enjoyable mix.Applaud yourself!!!!

  • At the sections that begin at 1:35 and 2:15 the bass and drums should have continued. Other wise awesome though.

  • hands down best version is the Americana Pt1 that has our prayer/gee and heroes and villians by AlternateBrianWilson. its a bit unconventional, but it is probably the most intimate version I've heard.

  • Always the Beach Boys finest single.

  • 5 star ,.cool

  • here is the thing

the song was written for the beach boy voices

so you can cover it (and bw and his band basically do that) but its not the same song

    sounds good...but not the same

  • i agree, it is the best. but BWPS is equal and better in a lot of ways.
