On Dec. 19, 2011 the City of Haikou China hosted the "China International electric vehicles and charging devices, energy storage technology exhibition". State Grid, the PRC owned electric utility that services 88% of China's land mass and over one billion people introduced a new robotic device developed by SG to be used with NASDAQ listed Kandi Technologies (KNDI) patented "side slide" Quick Battery Exchange technology being used on KNDI's new Lithium battery EV, the KD5011. With this fully automated procedure, a consumer can drive up to one of the many QBEX stations that State Grid is developing and swap out his battery for a fresh one in less then one minute.
The range of this new KNDI EV is now in excess of 250km (162miles). Note that in contrast to the QBEX concept developed by "Better Place", which requires the battery to be installed only at one of their QBEX stations since the battery is installed under the car between the tires, KNDI's side slide also allows a two minute manual mobile exchange to be done at any location the vehicle might be stationed.
