how people can say they dont know nothing about africa you choose to not know is not that hard computer,google it, tv visit your root ,and there alot of people from africa walking around every were in this country not once u cant stop and ask them about your root just admit it u ashame of your root u think u to good for your root.

Every blacks that with to slavery are mix with different race and are born in other countrys after slavery but that still dont stop us we still love are root so why are u ? keep leaving in denial keep saying oh we mix im sorry to tell u your not the only one that mix what your excuse now? if that what make u go to bed at night then good for u, if that what make u feel like u belong in this country then good for u . (us caribbean are proud to be african no matter what.)

I don't know that that guy was implying that he was ashamed of having African ancestry.

He just seemed to be saying he didn't like the term because it makes US blacks descended from slaves sound like they are the same group as African immigrants who just got here. And they're not the same; they're two different groups with different cultures. He also didn't say that he thought US black culture was better than African, just *different*.

Basically, he just thinks the term is confusing.

@cecinia23 I think that's mainly because the USA is a country with a white majority, so they teach *some* European history in school.

Plus, I think that, unfortunately, Americans don't have too much interest in what's happening outside the US. (That's also why places like Haiti or Africa have a bad image. No one ever talks about them except for charities who want to help the poor. No one has enough interest in these places to report the good things, so they don't get reported.)

It will be good if black can be united ,but if we cannot be united that is fine ..What else is new?
