Five lion cubs born at Hamburg's Hagenbeck zoo enjoyed a sunny autumn day for the first time as they were let into their outdoor enclosure.

"They are barely nine weeks old. In about four weeks we will let the father join them for the first time. But first they have to grow some more and get to know the outdoor enclosure before this next step," said zoo keeper Anthony Kershaw.

A friend of mine did her zoology Doctorate in Rearing Orphan animals, and how to provide an environment that best fits the orphan's needs.

As part of that, she hand-raised a tiger cub whose mother couldn't feed it due an infection as the result of a c-section. I was so jealous. It was like she was the mother...of a freakin' tiger!
