Johnny, you continue to be one of my favorite conga instructors on you tube. I'm always impressed by your ability to give information with precission, clarity and respect. Please continue to share your conga skill sets. Would like to see and hear your take on teaching conga improvosations. Many different teaching approaches, eg. Master class' Michael Spiro. Thanks again.

Clave: A spanish word meaning key, the clave is serving as a skeletal rhythmic figure around which the different drums and percussion are played. ...that is the name of the instrument La Clave-the 'key' to playing Afro-Cuban and Latin music...

Thus, when someone who is a native Spanish speaker with a recognized teaching qualification confirms the definition for me I will believe them, bow my head and say “thank you, master”.

Well, thank you for that simple, unsubstantiated statement of fact. For me, seeing is believing. I have taught languages all my life since my early 20's, own some of the very best English, Portuguese, German, Italian, French, Latin, Greek and Spanish dictionaries, used by language teachers (yes, with higher degrees!) and in none of them is "clave" defined as the name of a musical instrument.

@PaulRichardOwen07 clave is also the name of the instrument this guy is holding

Hi there! I'm Rick, Anglo-Brazilian, and ex-professional musician in Brazil, speak perfect Portuguese, pretty good Spanish and a few other languages. I think there may be some confusion. Clave = Key (see most dictionaries). Hence, clave de fa = key of F (major), clave de sol = key of G (major), etc. In Spanish, as in Portuguese, ritmo 3 por 2, ritmo de rumba, ritmo de samba, etc. determine the rhythm a percussionist plays. I think somebody may have misinformed you... Regards, Rick.
