  • What is this crap about getting radiation burns or radioactive poisoning from DU? I thought the Navy was supposed to be smarter than the Army. I'm a stupid grunt and even I'm capable of doing basic research before I start talking.

DU dust is dangerous because it's a toxic heavy metal, not because of radiation. The chemical damage from inhaling it is literally 1 million times more serious than whatever tiny amount of alpha radiation it's emitting. dx.doi.org/10.1016%2FS0162-0134%2802%2900391-4

  • @seize7days did you know that everything has a certain amount of radiation coming out of it? even lead and chocolate

  • to not experience radiation is impossible. Light and almost if not ALL electronics emit radiation (radio waves)

  • @EntropicMisanthropic You forget that there is always wind on a ship no matter where you are on deck. There is more than enough wind to blow the dust away from the ship.

  • @EntropicMisanthropic they are because army's bunch mothafuckin dumbasses

  • All Hail R2D2!!!

  • @instantjizz That's the radar and controls, the ammo drum is below, 1,500 rounds.

  • dang is that big dome where all the ammunition's at? cause damn if it got hit, be like the biggest shrapnel bomb

  • You didn't hear all the announcments on th 1MC prior to the test fire? They must make a dozen all hands announcements. "All hands stand clear, Phalanx SEA WIZ PAC FIRE in progress." (Yes, I know it's CIWS Pre-Action Aim Calibration). Fuck yea.... That bastard will rattle the teeth outta your head!!!!

  • I was in the USN on the T. Roosevelt. I used to work, sleep, eat, down below the waterline, and if I didn't make an effort to go topside, I would have never seen the sun. I used to go out onto the fantail, have a smoke, watch the sunset, whatever. One time the CIWS guys were running a test on the aft/port unit. I didn't know it. The thing started shooting while I was sitting ten feet away. My body must have dumped a quart of adrenaline into my system instantly. Scared me to death! lol

  • @seshmarls If you really want to know about depleted Uranium then I would recommend listening to a talk on the subject by the U.S. Army Doctor in charge of the study on the health effects of D.U. at the pentagon. Inhaling DU dust is not like chocolate. Too many armchair experts on here why not listen to the experts first before becoming a youtube expert. Here is the link to the U.S. Army doctors report on youtube. watch?v=e-VkpR-wka8

  • @EntropicMisanthropic It is an alpha emitter that if inhaled as a particulate is very dangerous. Alpha particles can't penetrate skin because they are stopped by dead skin cells. Inside the lungs there is no layer of dead skin and the alpha particles bombard the cell which likely will cause cancer.

Dr. Doug Rokke was in charge of studying DU for the US army. Here is his speech if you don't believe me, don't fool yourself friend. watch?v=e-VkpR-wka8
