@James25H : @James25H: a stimulus is anything that causes a response. (So, the term "neutral stimulus" is a bit of a misnomer, I know, since it doesn't elicit a response in the given context.) so, what is the difference between a conditional reflex and an unconditioned responce. My book used salivating for both examples

Hi hallnoatsforever,
An unconditioned response (/reflex) is one that happens naturally, on its own, without any need for conditioning. For example, when you put a lemon slice into your mouth, you will likely start to salivate--that's an unconditioned response (you weren't conditioned to respond that way).

a stimulus is anything that can be perceived. It CAN influence behaviour or cause a response but not necessarily.
