Taken on 29th of January 2011 from the train entering Miyokonojo, Kyushu, Japan. Clouds of volcanic ash from Kirishima made the town a dusty moonscape.

  • I enjoyed the visit - despite the ash. It made for some interesting photography

  • The Volcano is Shinmoedake. Kirishima is the name of the mountain that blocks the view of Shinmoedake from Miyakonojo ... just saying tho :P

  • @JohnZorZ84 Thanks John. I was told it was Kirishima when I was there. It certainly made life uncomfortable.

  • @hojucandy no problem, and yes it certainly was an interesting event thats for sure, I still see ash in the streets now, put just little bits, quite hard to get rid of all of it, it just gets everywhere, lol

  • Though in my defense, I was preoccupied with my stolen wallet and figuring out how to keep you entertained in the midst of a major eruption... Aside from running from debris.

  • I'm pretty sure I didn't know which peak was erupting when you were visiting, but John is correct.
