She could have been a politician the way she diverted this conversation; specifically, Phil brings up her dislike of excesses, following up on a caller's question about Desi. I *know* he was trying to get at why their marriage collapsed (excessive drinking and women), but instead she goes off talking about Goodwill donations, turning it into a public service announcement. There's nothing at all wrong with supporting Goodwill (great charity!), it's just not where he was going with that question.

@Classicsatdusk , Lucy DID have the good sense to allow herself to be dubbed. She did it all the time on her TV shows and wanted to do the same thing in MAME but Warner's refused, saying "modern" audiences would not accept dubbing.

did smoking do that to her voice?

is this interviewer retarded?? he is a complete idiot in my book!

i love how she perked up by the mention of Desi. lol. But when she said he was happily married she looked a bit sad. haha! We all know Lucy and Desi always loved each otherr!

She's beautiful here. Great seeing her in a good mood. At this point all signs were pointing at MAME being financially successful. It started out strong but then dropped dramatically. Lucy should have had the good sense to allow herself to be dubbed. Big mistake in her singing her own songs.
Seriously? Someone gave me a "thumbs down" because I simply *acknowledged* that Desi Arnaz's excessive drinking and extra-marital affairs led to Lucy's divorcing him? A fact that can be verified in any number of the Lucille Ball biographies? Jeez!

His name was Desi Arnaz. Ricky was his characters name on "I Love Lucy".
