On November 9, the School hosted a book launch for Generation in Waiting: The Unfulfilled Promise of Young People in the Middle East (Brookings Press, 2009). Edited by Tarik Yousef, Dean of DSG and a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, and Navtej Dhillon, former Policy Director of the Middle East Youth Initiative, the book presents an outline for economic development policies that empower Middle East youth as they make the transition to adulthood.
To commemorate the launch of the book, the School hosted a panel discussion by members of the research and policy community from across the region on the material struggles faced by young people in the Middle East. Participants in the discussion included Mary Kawar, (International Labor Organization), Nader Kabbani, (Syria Trust for Development), Rami Khouri (Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy & International Affairs, American University of Beirut,), Tarik Yousef (DSG), Paul Dyer (DSG) and Ahmed Younis (Silatech/ Gallup).
