starts off very easy, but as soon as the plates build up charge it slows down due to the forces involved. i believe a good stirling engine would have no problem driving it.
Unfortunately my machine was destroyed in the Christchurch earthquake.

Yes, they can charge up large capacitors. There were used to generate high voltage for early Xray machines.
